Acton Super Beef... A Long and Proud History
Acton Super Beef is the creation of the fourth generation descendants of William and Eliza Jane Acton who emigrated
from Ireland in the early 1860’s. They purchased a parcel of 1,000 acres of prime grazing land on the edge of
Rockhampton for 25 cents per acre. From these humble beginnings nearly a century and a half ago, the Acton
Land & Cattle Company have expanded their land holdings to approximately 3.87 million acres. Partners Graeme
and Evan Acton provide active hands-on management of the company’s diverse day-to-day operations.
A modest holding of Angus cattle has grown to a herd of approximately 180,000 head of top quality Santa Gertrudis,
Brahman, Charolais and Angus cross cattle. The meticulous crossing of these breeds and the particular attention
paid to conformation and quality has resulted in the superiority of Acton Super Beef produced today.
Acton Super Beef breed their cattle on the wide open paddocks of their million acre Millungera Station in the
Queensland Gulf, and their 2.3 million acre Barkly Downs station located 150 kilometres west of Mt Isa. Between
four and eight months of age the yearlings are transferred by road train to Moray Downs, Iffley and Croydon
Stations for growing on improved grasses and legumes.
At around 20 months of age the cattle are moved to the picturesque Paradise Lagoons or nearby
Mountain View for grain-assisted finishing. The Acton Family’s time-proven management
practices and rigid quality control systems ensure the wellbeing and welfare of their herds.
Open pasture grazing is supplemented by grain from self-feeders providing cattle with a
balanced and nutritious diet. This ensures the health and natural growth of the cattle, and
sustained provision of consistently tender and tasty, premium quality beef products.
In response to consumer demand for branded products of a superior and consistent
quality, Acton Super Beef was established and quickly gained consumer acceptance
and praise throughout Australia and internationally.
